主讲人:Makhlouf LALEG
Makhlouf Laleg (a product innovation/application and process solutions-driven professional) received his Doctorat d’État-es-Sciences Ph.D. from the Université de Claude Bernard (UCB) and Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) both in Lyon, France. Demonstrated leadership skills to build and guide teams for results and a proven ability to lead organizational change. Outstanding ability to develop project goals/effective plans & approaches and communicate them to a wide variety of audiences (university students/graduates, mill operators, technical, business, senior management). Makhlouf has over 30 years of R&D & industrial experience, first as a Principal Scientist and Research Leader at the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (now FPInnovations, FPI) and subsequently, after retiring from FPI in March 2017, as a part-time retainer at BASF Paper Chemicals in Germany (Ludwigshafen) and in the USA (Charlotte NC) supporting work on R&D projects and on developing application solutions for chemical additives in paper/tissue and paperboard packaging grades as well as giving technical supports to BASF technical staff and client mills. He has also worked as a part-time retainer at Solenis Paper Chemicals in Delaware USA on R&D and developing application solutions with paper and paperboard chemical additives. Makhlouf has extensive expertise in the fields of pulp and papermaking process/chemistry, the applications of process and functional additives (mineral filler, natural/synthetic polymer, size, binder, and resins) and related applications, the development of mechanical and/or chemical modification methods to produce micro/nano cellulose fibrils/applications, regenerated cellulose materials/products, functional lignin binder/adhesive compositions/applications, and product quality improvements, product development, and cost reduction. He has also been continually active in the transfer of technologies to pulp and paper mills and helping in the development and applications of cellulose & lignin biomaterials in paper/tissue/packaging products, composite materials (thermoplastic and thermosetting), and wood products. He holds 14 granted patents (+ 3 concept applications) and has published over 39 papers and conference proceedings in the scientific literature as well as over 47 FPI internal publications. At FPI he obtained several R&D grants (government and industry) and had numerous projects and technical interactions with pulp and paper mills and major chemical suppliers. He gave numerous pulp and papermaking/chemistry courses (over 200 lectures/industrial presentations in Canada, USA, Germany, and Algeria, and recently online lectures for two Chinese Universities and one mill in the Philippines). Makhlouf was a member of TAPPI (and member of the TAPPI additives committee) for over 26 years and PAPTAC (and member of the fine paper and board committee) for over 28 years and was a founding member of the Société Québécoise sur les Polymères (SQSP). Presently, he is an Adjunct Professor working in collaboration with McGill University on a R&D grant Carbon Fiber Grand Challenge CFGC from Alberta Innovates and its Canadian oil industry partners to develop carbon fiber from by-product Oilsands asphaltenes. He is the founder and director of ML Papchem Solutions Inc., a consulting company specializing in the development and application of bio-based (forestry) materials and in pulp/paper chemistry. He carries out projects in his areas of expertise under contractual arrangements.
